Mr. Ahmed R Ahmed BSc (Hons) FRCS (Gen) is Consultant in Gastrointestinal (GI), Bariatric, and Laparoscopic Surgery, and Lead Surgeon and founder of the Department of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The Department of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery is now a leading unit in the UK designated as an NHS preferred provider and provisionally recognised as an International Bariatric Surgery Centre of Excellence ASMBS.

Mr Ahmed now sits on the prestigious International Bariatric Surgery Review Committee (IBSRC), comprised of top bariatric surgeons from around the world.

Mr Ahmed's main areas of expertise are in the fields of laparoscopic (keyhole) and bariatric (weight loss) surgery. Mr Ahmed will provide you with a friendly and honest opinion regarding your suitability for surgery, putting your safety and wellbeing as the first priority. Mr. Ahmed has trained in general and upper GI surgery at University College London and Middlessex Hospital School of Medicine in the UK. He has also trained in the United States at Stanford University Medical Centre and at the University of Rochester Medical Centre in New York where he completed a 1 year fellowship in Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery. This centre is one of the busiest in the world (greater than 700 annual bariatric procedures) as well as being an ASMBS rated Centre of Excellence. In addition to general laparoscopic operations, Mr Ahmed has performed over 1000 laparoscopic bariatric procedures (including 700 gastric bypasses). He trains other surgeons in the field of bariatric surgery and is on the faculty on numerous courses on bariatric surgery. He is also actively involved in bariatric surgery research and has numerous publications in peer reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO), Society of American Gastroenterological and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Association of Upper GI Surgeons (AUGIS), and the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOSS). He was awarded the 2007 International Federation of Surgery for Obesity (IFSO) Scholarship.
