Plastic and reconstructive surgeons undertake surgery such as:

• surgery of the face head and neck
• reconstructive surgery of the breast
• correction of abnormalities in the chest wall
• congenital or birth defects in children such as cleft lip and palate
• skin grafting

The professional representative body for plastic and reconstructive surgeons in the UK is The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. Many plastic surgeons also offer cosmetic surgery in the private sector. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons represents the interests of aesthetic and cosmetic surgeons. The professional body representing breast and reconstructive breast surgeons is the Association of Breast Surgery (ABS) of the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO). Many reconstructive breast & oncoplastic breast surgeons perform cosmetic breast surgery and are represented by membership of the British Association of Aesthetic Breast Surgeons (BAABS)
