Alun John is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Cardiff, Wales who specialises in the care of patients with various arthritic and pre-arthritic conditions of the hip. He performs reconstuctive hip surgery and has expertise in primary and revision hip replacement.
Mr Alun John is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon working at the Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board in Cardiff. His NHS work is based both at The University Hospital of Wales and Llandough Hospital. He has been in post since 2000. He also practises at the Cardiff Bay Clinic. He is a fellowship-trained hip surgery specialist.
Mr John qualified at St Bartholomews Hospital, in London and after undergoing basic traing in general and plastic surery he undertook Orthopaedic training in Wales and an eighteen month specialist fellowship in hip surgery in Australia.
Mr John is on the on call rota for treating emergency trauma cases at the University Hospital of Wales. The remainder of his time is spent managing the care of patients with various conditions of the hip – dealing with arthritic and pre-arthritic conditions. He performs reconstuctive hip surgery and has expertise in primary and revision hip replacement.
Mr John supervises and teaches junior surgeons and medical students. He has run a successful fellowship in hip surgery for senior orthopaedic trainees since 2001.

Mr John treats all aspects of adult hip disease with particular emphasis on hip replacement and revision hip replacement surgery.

Medico-legal practice: personal injury claims
Mr John has a wide-ranging and varied medico-legal practice. As an active trauma surgeon, as well as being involved with the surgery of lower limb degenerative disease, he accepts medico-legal instructions on all types of personal injury cases.
In addition, he regularly receives instructions in medical negligence cases, and it is his usual practice to request an initial perusal of the case papers before agreeing to act in any particular case.

Mr Alun John conducts his private clinic at the Hip Clinic, in Vale Healthcare’s Cardiff Bay Clinic. The Cardiff Bay Clinic is located in the heart of Cardiff Bay and is a new state of the art facility with full access to diagnostic imaging facilities and tests including MRI, X-ray, screening, and ultrasound), and on-site physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathic therapy.

In June 2010, Alun will begin seeing patients at Vale Healthcare’s new private hospital – Vale Hospital.
