He has always been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate training, in which he has extensive experience. He contributes to the organisation and delivery of many surgical training programmes in the UK, Europe and USA and is a regularly invited guest lecturer at international meetings.
His award winning Video Atlas of Eye Surgery has been recently released to high international acclaim. The atlas is a collaborative venture involving ophthalmologists from the UK, Europe and the USA. Its purpose is to provide a high quality video-based structured training programme in Eye Surgery. His instructional videos have won numerous awards at major scientific meetings, most recently as the “Best of Show” award at the 2008 American Academy of Ophthalmology.
He is a member of the Information Technology Committee, the Microsurgical Training Sub-Committee and E-learning Sub-Committee of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and served on the Council of the UK & Ireland Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS).
Since 1996 he has been a member of the Volunteer Faculty of ORBIS, the international eye charity that has, as its flagship, the DC10 "Flying Eye Hospital". Through this work he trains doctors and nurses in developing countries. He has undertaken programs in Bangladesh, Myanmar, the Philippines, Jamaica and Ethiopia. He is also one of the three ORBIS UK ambassadors, and works, in this capacity, to promote ORBIS both in the UK and abroad.
