Mr Rahman MD FRCS studied at the Leeds University School of Medicine and qualified in 1996, following which he completed house officer training at the Leeds General Infirmary and went on to a full surgical training programme. After gaining his Membership to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1999, he undertook a two year period of research and was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine with commendation. 

He undertook his Specialist Higher Surgical Training in major oncological centres in Yorkshire, principally as a Clinical Lecturer in the Professorial Unit at the Leeds General Infirmary and St. James’s University Hospitals. In addition to his clinical work, Mr Rahman supervised extensive research projects and published in highly respected medical journals. He was awarded the coveted Lord Smith medal by the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland in 2004 for his research into pancreatic disease. 

As a mark of his contribution to surgical research, he became a Hunterian Professor of Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007. During his time at Leeds he was a faculty member of the Leeds Institute of Minimal Access Surgery, and achieved specialist status in major cancer surgery for the liver, pancreas, oesophagus and stomach. He was trained as an advanced specialist practitioner of laparoscopic surgery for obesity, hernias, and many other benign conditions. 


Mr Rahman was appointed to a substantive Consultant post as a Pancreaticobiliary, Obesity & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at the prestigious Royal Free Hospital in London in 2008. He also works as part of the North London Obesity Surgery Service.


Mr Rahman currently has one of the largest referral practices for achalasia in the UK, and works along specialist gastroenterologists, dieticians, and physiologists to manage this condition. He also specialises in the management of gastroparesis within a nationally recognised specialist unit.


Surgery for cancer includes, pancreatic, gastric, and biliary cancers. Mr Rahman's specialist interests include acute and chronic pancreatitis and advanced laparoscopic pancreatic surgery.
