Respite care

Respite care

Respite care allows people to have some short-term, temporary relief from their normal routine, enabling the patient and/or their usual carer to take a break from their day-to-day routine.

Often, respite care is looked at as help and support that enables a person to take a break from the responsibility of caring for somebody else. But respite also provides a positive experience for the person receiving care.

As a carer, you may feel guilty or apprehensive about 'abandoning' the person you are looking after. But, if you go too long without taking a proper break, you may become ill, anxious or depressed, a consequence of which would be to make life more difficult for you and the person you are caring for.

The following hospitals and clinics provide detailed information about their UK respite care services on our site.
