Lifescan
was founded to help address the balance of healthcare needs in the UK. They aim to reduce the impact of undetected illnesses through a range of specially designed health checks. Using ‘open’ CT scanning technology, Lifescan is able to check for the very early signs of heart disease, lung cancer, colon cancer, aneurysms and osteoporosis as well as other illnesses. They also offer mole checks and a range of blood tests.
Since its launch in 2003, Lifescan has:
- Helped to provide peace of mind to over 64,000 people
- Scanned over 1,000 GPs and health professionals
- Helped save the lives of thousands of people through early diagnosis
By utilising the advanced diagnostic capabilities of CT scanning technology, Lifescan can provide insights into an individual’s current state of health.
Lifescan is registered as a provider of diagnostic and
screening services with the Care Quality Commission.
Lifescan works to strict clinical protocols and only works
with specially trained healthcare professionals.
Highly qualified radiographers and radiologists
All the radiographers and Consultant Radiologists at
Lifescan are subject to clinical audit. In addition,
Lifescan is regulated
under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) (Amendment) Regulations 2006
and has been inspected and approved under this legislation by the Department of
Health.
Health checks, CT scanning and services in the UK
All scans are developed in accordance with recognised
clinical research and many of Lifescan’s services are now being offered within
the NHS – in particular virtual colonoscopy and calcium scoring. The Department
of Health is also considering a lung cancer screening trial using low dose CT
similar to those already underway in the US and Europe.
What to expect when you go for health checks and CT scanning at Lifescan
Lifescan health checks take place at comfortable and modern centres around the UK. On the day of your appointment please wear comfortable clothing and if possible avoid metal fastenings such as zips and hooks as this can affect the clarity of the imaging. Please do not be concerned if this is not feasible as the Radiographers will work around what is comfortable for you.
Clinical evidence - modern multislice CT scanning
In the past few years there has been a technological revolution in the field of CT scanning. Modern multislice CT scanners are able to perform previously impossible or crude time-consuming examinations in a few minutes.
This new technology provides a powerful diagnostic tool capable of the early diagnosis of three main causes of death, namely coronary artery disease, lung and colon cancer. The early diagnosis of these conditions provides an unparalleled opportunity for early intervention when cure or prevention is possible.
