Preventing accidents and injuries

Many of the injuries and accidents that occur during sport and exercise can be prevented by following some simple rules and by sticking to some basic guidelines. Some of these principles apply to anyone – irrespective of sex or age, while some are specific to a particular group of people. Philip Newton, joint Director of the Lilleshall Sports Injury and Human Performance Centre, starts off by checking out the ‘dos & don’ts’ that apply to children, adolescents and older athletes.

He then finishes with some general advice that should help anyone – of any age or sex – to get all of the many benefits from a regular exercise schedule while avoiding some of the common pitfalls.
