There are just over 10 million cigarette smokers in England, which is about a quarter of the adult population, and in 1995, there were over 97,000 smoking-related deaths. This is almost one in five of all deaths.
Creating awareness about the effects of smoking and the dangers to health continues to be a challenge. This section provides a useful source of information for those involved in promoting health and for anyone wanting to stop smoking. A glossary is included in which some of the more technical terms are explained.
