There are many hundreds of organisations and support services providing information and advice on health-related issues. The list here is by no means meant to be complete, rather it identifies some of the major groups that will be a useful first point of contact. If you can’t find the organisation you need, call one of the organisations listed under General information who will be able to direct you to the organisation you need.
Your local Health Authority (Health Board in Scotland and Health and Social Services Board in N. Ireland) or Citizens Advice Bureau (phone numbers in local phone book) will also be able to provide you with the details of local and national groups you can contact. Alternatively, use the Health Information Service below. Your pharmacy will be able to provide you with advice from a useful booklet The pharmacy guide to self-help groups.
Remember that many of the organisations have useful reading materials that they will provide you with free or at a small cost.
