promoting the role of MS specialist nurses and providing education to nurses and allied health professionals
- The MS Trust believes that everyone diagnosed with MS should have access to an MS specialist nurse in the same way that Macmillan Nurses are available to most cancer patients. At the beginning of 1995, there were just 3 MS specialist nurses but by Autumn 1999 this number had risen to around 70. The Trust hopes that this provision will increase to 300 by the year 2005
- In 1996 the Trust initiated a network of MS Nurses and started to provide a programme of education, information and communication both for specialist nurses and for other health professionals working with people with MS. Services available to health professionals include an extensive programme of study days, a degree course financed by the Trust and a Library and Information Service
- The launch of the Trust's Centre for Nurse Education (CNE) in April 2000 will see the consolidation of current and new educational projects under one umbrella initiative. The services of the CNE will comprise:
- Courses on MS for generalist nurses working with people with MS
- Induction courses for nurses who are starting to work within the specialist environment
- Courses and study days for specialist nurses, including a Masterclass on communication
- Skills training courses covering aspects such as presentation skills, time management and writing for publication
- A new 2 year degree course, Clinical Nursing Studies: Care of People with MS
- Access to the Library and Information Service (see below)
- The MS Trust Library and Information Service houses a unique collection of materials and information packs on all aspects of MS for access by health professionals, people with MS and their families and carers. Literature and Internet searches for published and scientific papers relating to MS can be undertaken.
- The Trust also produces a quarterly publication for healthcare professionals, MS Information Update, a list of latest relevant published studies; Way Ahead, a quarterly newsletter for health professionals working for people with MS; information packs and a range of leaflets on specific aspects of MS
-
The Trust has developed a new website, which can be located at http://www.mstrust.org.uk/. It is regularly updated to provide the latest information on the Trust's activities. The Trust is working to provide the latest information to people with MS
- The Trust is committed to working with other MS charities to ensure that all projects undertaken are complementary and that there is no duplication which would waste valuable resources.
- Easy to find pharmacy products
