What the Amarant Trust can do for you

The Amarant Trust: helping you through the menopause

The Amarant Trust is the only charity for women going through the menopause. The Trust was first set up in the 1980's to provide information and advice about all aspects of the menopause.

We offer help and support to women all over the UK through a free Helpline, an Adviceline on a premium rate telephone number, a selection of leaflets and publications, together with running a specialist menopause clinic. The Amarant Trust has already helped thousands of women - and it is here to help you too.

The Amarant Helpline

In 1996, the Trust set up a special Helpline where women can receive confidential advice over the telephone. A team of nurses, who are specially trained to deal with the menopause, will answer quesries regarding diet, menopausal symptoms, HRT and its side effects and alternative treatment. If you are experiencing symptoms such as severe hot flushes, anxiety or irritation, or simply need more information, we can help.

The Helpline currently receives around 800 calls a month, around 9000 callers a year. Lines are open weekdays from 11am to 5pm. Calls are charged at the standard rate. The telephone number is 01293 413000.

In addition to the Helpline, the Trust runs a series of recorded Advicelines. Calls cost 60p per minute. The pre-recorded tapes have been prepared by Mr Malcolm Whitehead, Chairman of the Amarant Trust and Consultant at King's College London, and Dr Val Godfree, Deputy Medical Director of the Trust.

The telephone number is 09068 660620.

Amarant publications

One of the longest established aims of the Trust is to provide women with objective information about the menopause. We write and update leaflets that include new treatments, alternatives, premature menopause, menopause and hysterectomy. If you need general information about the menopause, or more specific information about what type of HRT you are on, then we have the information.

Becoming a friend of the Trust

By becoming a friend of the Amarant Trust, you will help support the work of the Trust and receive all the information we produce about the menopause. This entitles you to all Amarant publications, updated leaflets and any other information. The Trust has also run a number of roadshows to communicate with the general public and campaigns for changes that could improve the treatment of menopausal women. Your donation helps our work continue. If you would like to become a member, please contact the Amarant Trust on 020 7490 1644.

The Amarant Clinic

The Trust runs a not-for-profit menopause clinic at the Churchill Clinic on Lambeth Road, London. The clinic is led by doctors who are backed up by specialist trained nurses. The clinic currently sees over 100 patients a month. Where necessary, treatments that include mammograms, cervical smears, hormone test, bone density scans are available. The cost of an initial consultation is £85. Follow up appointments cost 345. If you would like to make an appointment with the Clinic, please telephone on 0207 401 3855.
