Asthma helpline service

Got questions and concerns about asthma?

Email us: asthmanurse@asthma.org.uk

On World Asthma Day (7 May 2002) the National Asthma Campaign, for the first time ever launched an online Asthma Helpline service.

The Asthma Helpline has been an invaluable telephone service for people with asthma since its inception in 1990, but now people with asthma, parents, friends and relatives, will also be able to email their questions directly to an asthma nurse from 7 May to 31 May 2002 at asthmanurse@asthma.org.uk

Every year the asthma nurses who run the Helpline answer thousands of calls from members of the public with all sorts of concerns and questions about their asthma. Callers find the help that they receive invaluable:

"I feel better now, more so than in any time in my life."

"I'm so very grateful.  I took the advice the nurse gave me and I feel so much better.  I was very tearful, scared and distressed when I phoned but I had to ring back and say how I feel so much better.  Thank you so much."

"You've given me more information in 5 minutes than I've had from my surgery in the last 3 years."

Head of Asthma Services, Fiona Costello, says:

"People who use our new online service will find the same service as those who call the Asthma Helpline, that we make the time to listen to their concerns and give independent, up-to-date advice that's right for them.

"We know how valuable many people find our telephone Helpline but we also know that not everyone can get to a phone when they need to during our opening hours.  We are hoping that our online service will encourage them to seek help and advice about their asthma.  In complete confidence, people can email an asthma nurse whenever they want to, whatever time of day or night."
